Editorial policy
Sourcing
- Federal rules (HPA, RESPA, TILA, HUD/FHA/VA documentation) cited from official .gov sources.
- Rate references: government data (FRED) or major news outlets within 30 days; never from lender marketing pages.
- Math: derivable from first principles. Worked examples included in every article.
Fact-checking
Every article includes (1) a 40–60 word answer block, (2) numerical examples that can be reproduced in our calculators, and (3) a last-updated date. Articles are reviewed at minimum quarterly; financial-rule changes (e.g. PMI law, HUD policy) trigger same-week updates.
Corrections
If you find an error: email us with the URL and the correct figure plus a source. We update and add a dated note to the bottom of the article when the correction is material.
Conflicts of interest
- We are not paid by any lender.
- We do not run lead-gen forms or affiliate links to lenders.
- Display advertising (Google AdSense) is the only revenue stream once approved.
AI usage
We use AI tools to help with grammar, code review, and formatting. All numerical claims, math, and policy statements are written and verified by humans, and the author of every article is listed in the byline. See our AI policy for crawler/training rules.
Update cadence
- Calculator math: audited on every release via unit tests in CI.
- Articles: reviewed monthly; substantive update at least once per quarter.
- Legal pages: reviewed annually or whenever the law changes.
